Nurse practitioner care

Virtual mental health assessment and care planning

A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced education and authority to assess, diagnose and treat within their professional scope. BrainLab’s virtual service may include mental-health assessment, treatment planning, follow-up, and coordination with other care where appropriate.

Medication

Prescribing and medication management

Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medications when clinically appropriate and within their scope of practice. An appointment may include reviewing current medication, discussing possible benefits and risks, monitoring response or tolerability, and planning follow-up.

Medication is not promised or suitable for every person. The clinician determines what can be offered after assessment and within applicable authorization.

Pharmacogenomic information

One source of information within a prescribing decision

A DNA-based test can provide information about how your body may metabolize or respond to certain medications. When clinically appropriate, these findings can be considered alongside your diagnosis, medical history, previous medication response and other factors to help inform prescribing decisions.

Pharmacogenomic testing does not determine which medication will work best for every person, and clinically useful pharmacogenomic information is not available for every medication.

Distinct from therapy

A separate clinical service

Nurse practitioner mental health services and psychotherapy are different services, even when they relate to the same broader concern. One does not automatically replace the other, and some people use them as separate parts of a care plan.
